Hey everyone. My name is Marshall Fields and I’m a Music Minister from Texas. I established this blog mainly because I think too often we get to the point where we ignore the things God tells us in life. Me included! So writing down some of the things He reveals to me helps me not forget my place in the world, and hopefully as a reader it can help give some insight into your own walk with Christ. I didn’t want to keep the “about” page too long, but I did want to share a little bit about where I’m coming from…

First of all, the title of the blog, “barefoot worship,” is something I feel very passionate about personally, because just as we learn from the story of Moses in the Bible, he removed His sandals in the presence of God, because he was standing on holy ground. This concept seems maybe silly to most, or perhaps outdated, but the concept of standing on holy ground transcends time throughout all of history. The sandals image reminds me of a quote by John the Baptist, in reference to Christ, “whose sandals [he] is not even worthy to untie.” How beautiful a picture we get! In the end, our worship whether taking place in the capacity of singing, or sharing our testimony, in Bible study, or in any part of our daily walk, should be influenced by the knowledge that because of Christ, we are holy ground! To God, it’s not important how expensive the shoes we’re wearing are, or anything else we feel like we can bring to offer God, because to him it’s not ever going to be good enough… and all that God desires from us is ourselves. So in view of everything God reveals to you and I through his Scripture, God is seeking after the authentic heart of his people.

I became a Christian at a very early age, and while that might seem to categorize me as a “churchy,” it wasn’t until later in life that I discovered (or God had to remind me) of what He wants me to do with my life. I spent a lot of time ignoring that, and it wasn’t until – Charles Swindoll said it best – “God started doing His best work in me when He introduced a change that was completely against my own desire.”

The most important thing for us to remember is that God has something to share with us: His love. We may argue that at times, or reject it even, but it never changes the fact that He still loves us. Our job as Christians is supposed to be sharing that with everyone around us… and how selfish we are to not do so! How selfish I can be to ever think that work, friends, family, money, or anything I desire in this world was meant for me! Wrong!

So I hope you enjoy the blog, and that you might have fervor – however fleeting – for God to show you something in your own life.

Much love, in Christ,
-Marshall Fields
